Bummy at the Met Gala

The way we look from our hair to our clothes really depends on how we’re feeling & what we’re doing. Target usually gets the bare minimum from you but the baby shower of shorty who always throwing shade but invited you anyways gets the waviest pinterest inspired fit so she knows wussup. You get me? Just like we all have our own personalities, we all have our signature look; the look that says “this is something you would wear” & sometimes we try something way out our clothing comfort zone & spend the whole day feeling complete regret even though you look good (I call it the “what the fuck was I thinking I hate it here” look) As different as all our looks May be, we all have the same five looks. We live on a constant scale from homeless to met gala. As much as we wish we always looked like Anna Wintour personally invited us, we can’t. Let me explain.

Signature look – YOUR basic fit that you do everyday. Everyone knows it’s “something you would wear.” The expected. You probably have the same shirt in 5 colors because it’s just your favorite type of shirt. It’s just your look. The look that makes you, you. What you’re most comfortable in.

Shopping center look– a calm, comfy, errands running look. It’s comfortable enough for you to move around a lot, getting in & out the car but still cute enough to grab lunch in or run into an old High School friend. You probably have some concealer and brow gel on with chapstick. You didn’t put any real effort into this outfit but you attempted to at most look decent & some how it worked.

THE FITTTTTTT – the fit is the fit. I can’t even explain this one because you get it. It’s just The Fit. You’re going to a party you know you need to stunt at so you bought out your fashion nova cart, with NO coupon code. You feel me. This ain’t no regular look. This is a run into your high school crush look. This is A LOOK. THE LOOK.

Out of Comfort Zone look– You wanted to try something new, but you regret it instantly. Not because you don’t look fire, but because it’s not you. You spend the entire time saying to yourself “what the fuck was I thinking, I hate it here”. You look good, you’ve probably gotten more compliments with this look than with your signature look, but you’re not comfortable. You want to change. Shit even you know you look good, but it’s not YOU and that’s why you’re not happy.

This isn’t how I Wanted to go Viral look- it’s a look that you hope nobody sees you in. You just put whatever on to go to the corner store but you instantly regret it & you’re just hoping you don’t become the next viral meme. You probably just stepped out to “stay in the car” so your mom doesn’t get a ticket when she goes to buy something in a town that never has parking. Maybe you just had to go pick up your medicine or grab some food you ordered for pick up… this is the look that you happen to run into EVERYBODY in. Yup. This look will humble you so fast.

You feel me? I’m sure with each one you read you were like yup, got that… got that…. definitely got that… I told you, I write these blogs because I be knowing. Now on a serious note, as much as we say we don’t care what we look like or what people think of us, a small part of us does. It’s why we have “signature looks” because it’s what works for us & blends us in. It’s also why looks outside of our comfort zone make us feel so uncomfortable & out of place. Since i was a little girl my mom has told I should always look nice because you “never know who you’re going to meet”, so I try to always look presentable in case I see Chris Brown in Target right? Listen, as important as appearance may be, some days it’s just not gonna happen & hopefully, that’s not the day I meet him. It’s okay to dress up to go to food shopping, there’s no such thing as a wasted fit. It’s okay to look crazy at dinner, if it’s what you want to do. Fashion’s only consistency is that it’s always changing. It’s so hard to keep up sometimes. My point is wear whatever the fuck you want because you want. Fashion & style is that simple.

Im not even sure where i want to take this. My need to write is so much bigger than my need to understand why.
